Tragically, just over 40 years after the liberation of Auschwitz, genocide returned to Europe when over 8,000 Bosniak men and boys were murdered by Serb forces from 11-22 July 1995. You can learn more about what happened on the website of the charity Remembering Srebrenica.
Several members of the Forum have visited Srebrenica in recent years, and the above photograph was taken by Co-Chair Heather Fletcher when she was there. This year sees the 25th anniversary of this terrible crime.
On Sunday 19 July the Forum will be holding an online commemoration event. The confirmed speakers are:
• Cllr Heather Fletcher, Forum Co-Chair
• Afzal Khan CBE, MP for Manchester Gorton
• Ann Algar, Co-Chair, Women of Faith
• Elinor Chohan, Chair of Remembering Srebrenica North West
• Kate Green, MP for Stretford and Urmston
• Aldin Zilic, Bosnian who came as a refugee aged 10
• Cllr Rabnawaz Akbar will give the vote of thanks
After the speakers participants will have the opportunity to share their own thoughts.
