Friday 18 October 2019

A meaningful, well attended Inter Faith Event, took place at Heathlands Village and was hosted by The Fed Jewish Charity, on Wednesday night, 16/10/19.

It was the first event of its kind and was planned and organised by The Greater Manchester Jewish Representative Council.

Many faith leaders attended, including the Chair of The Manchester Council of Mosques and the Dean of Manchester Cathedral.

The Ceremonial Mayor of Salford was present together with one of Her Majesty’s Deputy Lieutenants for Bury.

Rabbi Daniel Walker, from Heaton Park Synagogue, explained to the guests the significance of being in a “tabernacle” (harvest booth) for the current Jewish Festival of Tabernacles, known in Hebrew as Succos ).

An area of Heathlands was converted to a “tabernacle” with the required special roof open to the elements.

Guests were treated to a sumptuous three course meal.

The vote of thanks was given by The Dean of Manchester Cathedral Rogers Govender.

“Nothing is more important than faith communities sharing their practices and educating others about their beliefs and customs” said a spokesperson for The Representative Council.
