Thank you to the Rt Hon Wes Streeting MP, the Secretary of State for Health & Social Care for taking the time to meet with our CEO, Marc Levy.
We discussed the terrorist attack against Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation along with the response from our charitable organisations to assist the families of those murdered, injured and the wider community.
We welcome the strong comments already made by the Secretary of State regarding tangible steps to be taken to combat antisemitism within the NHS. It was emphasised how Jewish people are scared to inform staff of their religion and certain specific cases of discrimination were mentioned. We made clear that the IHRA definition should be used by the NHS as it is the globally agreed definition on identifying antisemitism.
We spoke about our fantastic relationship with the NHS leadership across Greater Manchester who always act swiftly and appropriately regarding allegations of antisemitism. It is our hope their work can be replicated elsewhere.
