JRC Visits Lancaster University

Rabbi Danny Bergson, JRC Stakeholder and Engagement Manager visited Lancaster university JSoc for a bagel lunch. This continues our engagement with communities across the region.

Lancaster JSoc is a thriving hub of Jewish life. According to University statistics there are currently around 50 students that self identify as Jewish. The attendance ration at events is sometimes as high as 50-60%, much higher than other campuses where there are much larger number of Jewish students. The close knit group of students are from around the UK as well as foreign students.

Meetings are held at the multi-faith chaplaincy led by Rev John Rogers.

What is unique about this chaplaincy is that historically when the Lancaster university Chaplaincy Centre was established a section of the building was dedicated for Jewish use. This arrangement continues and the space is shared by the students as well as the Lancaster and Lakes community, who use the space to hold services.

Meetings with the group are planned for November and December.
