“The JRC notes with deep concern the findings of the Community Security Trust’s latest report documenting the second highest number of antisemitic incidents recorded annually. Within our region, 476 incidents were registered including the deadly terrorist attack targeting Heaton Park Synagogue. This resulted in the murder of Adrian Daulby and Melvin Kravitz with three more individuals seriously injured.
This is not an issue confined to one part of public life but it paints a picture where hatred against Jewish people has been allowed to manifest itself across society. We are grateful to those members from our political leadership, emergency services and other key stakeholders who have demonstrated their commitment to our safety during this difficult time.
Whilst we appreciate the superb levels of support for our security, even more importantly do we believe that our political leadership needs to to tackle the radical extremism that is leading to the toxic environment that the Jewish community is having to navigate.
Extreme violence against our community is a real and present danger. Solidarity from those outside our community is now essential as we deal with hatred being directed against Jewish people seeking to live their lives.
We place on record our gratitude to the professional team and volunteers at the Community Security Trust for their professionalism, vigilance and tireless commitment to safeguarding the Jewish community and protecting our way of life.”
