Marc Levy, Chief Executive of the Jewish Representative Council of Greater Manchester & Region, attended a critical summit at Downing Street alongside communal representatives, the Prime Minister, senior Cabinet Ministers and civic society leaders.
The meeting addressed the ongoing national emergency following the terrorist incidents at Heaton Park Synagogue and Golders Green, the recent arson attacks and the wider lived experiences of Jewish people across society.
We continue to make direct representations at the highest levels and have advocated alongside our colleagues for the following to take place:
- Proscription of the IRGC and removal of the Iranian Ambassador
- Tackling overt antisemitism on hate marches, including the full use of public order powers
- Addressing antisemitism n mosques and online sermons, including recognising the threat from Islamist extremism
- Protecting Jewish cultural events from cancellation and ensuring no platforms are given to antisemitic performers
- Stopping hate preachers entering the UK
- Ensuring swift justice for those inciting hatred against Jews
- Fully implementing counter-extremism strategies to prevent radicalisation
Online hate remains a major concern. Marc also joined a key meeting with the Community Security Trust and Antisemitism Policy Trust, wth Online Safety and AI Minister, Kanishaka Narayan MP, who summoned social media companies to take firm action against antisemitism and hatred on their platforms.
