Yom Hazikaron Tekes was extremely powerful as our community came together to remember the brave soldiers of the Israel Defence Forces who gave their olives in defence of the State of Israel. As is usual, we also commemorated the victims of terrorism. This was naturally even more pertinent following the atrocities committed on 7 October.
Thank you to Ben Shapiro, Or Ribbon and the team at UJIA for their hard work organising such a memorable evening.
We heard first hand testimony from Liora Eilon who survived the massacre on Kfar Azar alongside her granddaughters. Tragically, as her son fought the terrorists, he was killed in battle.
There were also excellent speeches from UJIA Manchester Chair Carmel Berke and JRC Chair Mark Adlestone OBE.
In addition to an emotional candle lighting ceremony, the event concluded with words from Greater Manchester resident Steve Airley, whose grandson Binyomin was killed in Gaza at 21 years old.
