Members of the Jewish Representative Council of Greater Manchester paid a courtesy visit to the newly-elected Mayor of Bury – Councillor Stella Smith – on Wednesday, 29th July 2015.

They had a full and wide-ranging discussion on many matters of mutual interest, especially education and the health service. The Mayor had recently attended the Langdon College Awards Ceremony at the King David Schools, She had also attended the AGM at the Nicky Alliance Centre.

The Mayor and her  husband, visited Israel 10 years ago with a group from her church a trip they thoroughly enjoyed. Previously elected for the Unsworth Ward and with a daughter living at the back of the Shrubberies Shul she is well acquainted with the various elements of the local community.

Councillor Smith expressed an interest and support for the activities of the community and said should we need any assistance with local government issues she is always available to us.

They presented her with the Year Book and a booklet on ‘ What Jews believe’.
