“One year ago, on Yom Kippur, our community was targeted in a deadly terrorist attack at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation.

We remain devastated by the loss of Melvin Cravitz and Adrian Daulby. Our thoughts are with their families and those who suffered life changing physical and mental injuries.

We hoped that day would be a line in the sand, that the seriousness of antisemitism would finally be understood. Tragically, antisemitism has continued to worsen across society with the British Jewish community subjected to further appalling terrorist attacks.

Our community has shown extraordinary strength, resilience, dignity and solidarity. We have continued to gather, worship and live proudly as British Jews, refusing to let terrorism dictate our lives.

We will continue to fight so that Jewish people can live openly, proudly and safely. While we welcome the significant investment in additional security, high walls and fences are ultimately a sticking plaster on a much deeper problem. We urge our political leaders to make good on their commitment to tackle the root causes of antisemitism and devote the resources needed to confront it at source.”
