Courtesy Visit to the Lord Mayor of Manchester

The following members of the Jewish Representative Council of Greater Manchester paid a courtesy visit to the newly-elected Lord Mayor of Manchester – Councillor Paul Murphy OBE – on Monday, 20th July 2015:

Frank Baigel – Immediate Past President

Barbara Goldstone – Past President

Louis Rapaport – Past President

They had a full and wide-ranging discussion on many matters of mutual interest, especially policing, Councillor Murphy having been Chairman of the Police Authority for many years, the resurgence of antisemitism and the Lord Mayor’s strong support of Israel.

The Lord Mayor had recently attended the Manchester AJEX Parade at Heathlands and the Langdon College Awards Ceremony at the King David Schools, and expressed support and interest for the Manchester Jewish Community’s activities.

The Officers presented him with a kippah and a copy of the Jewish Representative Council Year Book which contains full listings of Community institutions in which the Lord Mayor was particularly interested.

The forthcoming Provincial meeting of the Board of Deputies at Manchester Town Hall on Sunday,18th October was also discussed.IMG_20150720_150809 (2)
