Westminster Meetings and Government Progress Tackling Antisemitism

JRC Chief Executive, Marc Levy has been in Westminster this week holding important conversations with MPs from across the political spectrum around the King’s speech.

This follows last week’s Downing Street summit, and we welcome the Government’s commitment to tackling antisemitism in the aftermath of the Heaton Park terrorist attack and the appalling incidents endured by the London community over recent weeks.

However, we require more than just words. Government is fully aware of the steps needed to provide reassurance to our community.

We strongly support the measure announced by the King designed to curb the obvious threat posed by Iran. The JRC and our Chair, Mark Adlestone has consistently advocated for many of the proposals contained within the Protecting What Matters counter extremism plan.

We continue to press for further action, including:

  • Combating radicalisation across society, online and within mosques
  • Clearly naming the Islamist extremist threat facing our community
  • Tackling hate speech seen on pro-Palestinian marches
  • Making the Charity Commission fit for purpose
  • Ensuring swift justice for those charged with antisemitic hate crimes

Progress has been made and we commend Government on how they have followed up on our previous meetings. However, the safety of our community depends on further decisive measures being fully implemented without delay.
