The JRC thanks the Yom Hashoah Committee for once again delivering an unforgettable and deeply moving commemoration.
Yom Hashoah is a solemn occasion dedicated to preserving the memory of the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust, as well as honouring the resilience and courage of survivors whilst ensuring their legacy is carried forward to future generations.
We were privileged to be joined by remarkable survivors Eva Neumann, Marianne Phillips, Tomi Komoly and Anne Super, whose presence and testimonies continue to inspire and educate.
The evening was opened by our Vice Chair, Bernie Yaffe who delivered a powerful message highlighting the danger of antisemitism becoming normalised across society and remind us all of the importance of choosing kindness over hatred. He also referred how those who directly experienced the horrors of the Holocaust will no longer be with us to share their testimonies firsthand. Bernie emphasised the responsibility placed on future generations to safeguard these stories, ensuring that their lessons continue to resonate for years to come.
We also extend our sincere thanks to those from outside our community who joined us, including Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, Sir Stephen Watson, Deputy Mayor and Police and Crime Commissioner, Kate Green and chief Crown Prosecutor, Sarah Hammond.
